Encourage co-operative & mutual businesses
Should the government encourage more new co-operative and mutual forms of business?
Green Party A Green economy must be a more mutual economy, in which industries and enterprises which are run by and for those who depend on them and are affected by them play a significant role in the economy. We believe that the international co-operative principles provide the benchmark for such businesses. This means that the Green Party must enable both the creation of new mutuals and the greater involvement of stakeholders other than investors in existing businesses. Labour There are thousands of co-operatives up and down the country showing that there is a different way of doing business – putting employees, customers and communities first. We should be proud that Britain was the birthplace of the co-operative ideal and take action to ensure it has a bright future at home and abroad." M"ore needs to be done to ensure that co-operative and mutual organisations are able to compete on a level playing field with PLCs and that there is a step change in access to finance for the social economy.
