Conservative 8 March 2015 - Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said that "there will be no further cuts to our regular armed forces" whilst David Cameron remains the party leader, saying that the prime minister "is passionate about our armed forces. He has always been absolutely clear that he is not prepared to preside over any further cuts to our regular armed forces". Labour The Labour party does not guarantee that defence spending is kept at 2% of national income, said Ed Balls, but will commit to an immediate strategic defence review if it gains power in the election. Plaid Cymru We also opposed the invasion of Afghanistan from the beginning and we now call for a move towards a situation in the country where Afghans can be safe to develop their own country without external political influence.
