Should homeowners with high-value properties pay a 'Mansion Tax'?

Alliance Party We believe that all people should pay their fair share of the district (and regional) rate by removing the cap that stops the owners of the wealthiest properties from paying the same percentage rate as everyone else.

Plaid Cymru Elfyn Llwyd, Plaid Cymru's parliamentary leader has voted tentatively in favour of the tax on properties worth in excess of £2m, saying, "We are minded to support wealth taxes, and we therefore welcome the motion, but it is a bit thin on detail. "

SNP Scottish ministers will be introducing a 'land and buildings transaction tax' in April 2015, which will see a progressive scale of rates. Homes worth in excess of £1m will pay £78,300 in tax, with homes valued at less than £135,000 being exempt from the tax.

UKIP UKIP are opposed to the idea of a Mansion Tax, calling it an attack on aspiration.
