Extend the Congestion Charge to other cities
Should the Congestion Charge be extended to other cities to help reduce congestion & pollution?
Alliance Party Encourage a wider debate on 'congestion charges' and other forms of road pricing. Such initiatives would be consistent with the 'polluter pays' principle. However, motorists should not be so penalised until a proper public transport infrastructure has been put in place. Source: Alliance Party http://allianceparty.org/page/policy-summary-regionaldev
Conservative The Conservatives would consider tolls on new roads built by the private sector
Green Party The party would first prioritise public transport services, and propose (if necessary) working towards introducing a similar system to London's Congestion Charge to other cities in the UK where appropriate. Source: Green Party Manifesto
Labour The Labour Party have previously ruled out the introduction of 'National Road Pricing' if they had won the general election in 2010. However, it is not known whether the party currently supports the extension of Congestion Charging into other UK cities.
