Force young people to learn a skill or conduct community work
Should all unemployed young people be forced to learn a skill or undertake community work?
Conservative Young people out of work, education or training for six months will have to do community work to get benefits if the Conservatives win the election. The scheme will involve about 30 hours a week of mandatory work, such as making meals for older people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-31500763
Labour Shadow work and pensions secretary attacked Tory plans to introduce plans to force young unemployed people to undertake unpaid community work. Labour's shadow work and pensions secretary Rachel Reeve said that the Conservatives should copy Labour's plan to "guarantee young people who have been unemployed for a year a six month job, paid for by a bankers' bonus tax.". Liberal Democrat The Liberal Democrats reacted to Tory plans to introduce plans to force young unemployed people to undertake unpaid community work by saying, "Just like the Tory plans to axe housing benefit for young people, it's all stick and no carrot. Young people should be given help and support into the work place, help at job centres, and the opportunity to get on in life, not just written off as feckless and lazy. We must make sure young people leave school with the skills they need to succeed, which is why Liberal Democrats will protect education spending."
