To protect the members of work based pensions scheme and to reduce the risk of situations arising that may lead to claims for compensation from the Pension Protection Fund. Also, under the Pensions Act 2008, to maximise employer compliance with duties and safeguards.

Advises on Social Security and regulations. Responsibility for mandatory scrutiny of secondary legislation made more than 6 months after the relevant act and informal provision of comments on changes to regulations made within 6 months of the relevant act.
